NPIRS Information
The National Pesticide Information Retrieval System (NPIRS) is a suite of subscription-based databases that provide comprehensive pesticide-related information. NPIRS data can support regulatory activities such as pesticide registration, identification of currently registered products, and analysis of market trends based on active registrations.
Databases
Data Sources
Primary data sources include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), as well as selected U.S. states and territories. CERIS receives state pesticide registration data from states that voluntarily submit their information. Some states also provide data for federally exempt products—such as FIFRA Section 25(b) minimum-risk products and other products that do not require federal registration but must be registered at the state level. Additionally, certain states supply information on “state restricted-use” products. When applicable, corresponding federal registration data are linked to state-registered products
Update Frequency
Federal Product Database: Updated weekly
PDMS: Updated weekly
State Product Database: Updated as frequently as each state provides data to CERIS, typically daily, weekly, or monthly
Unique Features
NPIRS databases are designed to interact seamlessly while preserving search results across systems. For example:
Search results generated in the Federal Product Database may be transferred directly into PDMS to identify
associated supporting studies.
The same federal search results may also be carried forward into the State Product Database to identify
corresponding state-level registrations.
This cross-database integration enhances efficiency, supports comprehensive regulatory evaluation, and ensures
continuity of information across federal and state datasets.
Information Not Available in NPIRS
NPIRS does not currently include the following categories of information:
Inert ingredients, dilution rates, re-entry intervals, exposure treatments, sales or market volume data, specific formulation details, application rates, endangered species requirements, repeat application or rotational interval information, and establishment numbers.
